STAINLESS STEEL MAIN CATEGORIES

 

300 series austenitic - alloys: 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 308, 309, 310, 314, 316, 321 stainless steel is made of stainless steel. Heat treatment is not possible and they do not hold the magnet. They are capable of taking shape. Stainless steel is the most common form of stainless steel in the world. Austenitic structure approximately 8-10% is formed by adding a nickel. However, nickel alone does not form austenitic structure.With the help of other elements such as manganese, nitrogen, carbon and copper, austenitic properties are created. Oxidation resistance increased with Molybdenum supplementation. It is used in decoration,machine manufacturing, white goods, chemical industry and sink manufacturing. Molybdenum supplementation increases the corrosion resistance.

400 series ferritic - alloys: 405, 409, 429, 430, 434, 436, 442... stainless steel in this series contains Chrome. As can be magnetized, but are not subjected to heat treatment. Ferritic stainless steels are generally nickel-free, containing high chromium (between 12% and 30%), carbide-forming elements such as molybdenum, titanium vanadium, and alloying elements that make ferritic structure stable. In general, the high chromium content provides ferritics with a very high corrosion resistance. Ferritic stainless steels with mechanical and physical properties close to the properties of carbon steels are magnetitic, unlike austenitic, they can not be subjected to heat treatment due to their low carbon content and can be easily rolled. Heat treatment is the process of annealing that can be applied to these types of steels.They are not as suitable for shaping as ostenitics.
